Meet Josh Dambara

LMFT, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Gestalt Therapist

Professional Summary

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Gestalt Therapist committed to helping teens, parents, and families build resilience in the face of stress and trauma. Drawing from my background in martial arts and Jiu-Jitsu, I incorporate principles of discipline, mindfulness, and boundary-setting into therapy, empowering clients to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and self-awareness. With a deep understanding of human behavior, emotional healing, and family dynamics, I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can process challenges, develop coping skills, and strengthen relationships. My approach, rooted in Gestalt principles and influenced by the mental and physical discipline of Jiu-Jitsu, helps individuals and families cultivate emotional strength, set healthy boundaries, and foster a greater sense of well-being.

Areas of Expertise

  • Healthy Boundaries & Relationship Dynamics:
Empowering individuals to set and maintain boundaries, build self-respect, and navigate relationships with confidence.

  • Teen/Adolescent Therapy: Supporting young people in navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, and the pressures of adolescence.

  • Parental Guidance and Support: Helping parents foster healthy communication, set boundaries, and guide their children through stress and adversity.

  • Family Resilience and Trauma Recovery: Assisting families in healing from trauma, strengthening emotional bonds, and developing resilience in times of crisis.

  • Emotional Regulation and Coping Strategies: Teaching mindfulness-based techniques to help individuals manage stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm.

  • Gestalt Mindfulness Practices: Encouraging self-awareness and present-moment strategies to promote emotional well-being and personal growth.

Therapeutic Approach

My practice centers around Gestalt therapy, emphasizing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and personal responsibility. I integrate mindfulness, body awareness, and practical coping tools to help teens, parents, and families navigate life’s challenges. Whether addressing trauma, academic stress, family conflict, or emotional struggles, I strive to create an authentic, collaborative healing experience that fosters resilience and long-term well-being.

Professional Background

I began my career as a primary therapist for county mental health programs in California and Utah, providing care to underprivileged individuals and families. I also led the mental health program for a drug court in Southern Utah, gaining experience in trauma recovery and emotional resilience. Over the past decade, I have operated a private practice, supervising therapists working with adolescents, couples, and families. Additionally, I contract with the Kane County School District, where I provide mental health services to middle and high school students, reinforcing my expertise in supporting youth and their families.

Why Work with Me?

A key focus of my approach is boundary setting to create healthy limits for themselves and their relationships. Whether you're a teen managing bullying, a parent navigating family dynamics, or a family seeking healing after abuse, I am here to support you in building lasting emotional strength. Additionally, drawing on the principles of Jiu-Jitsu, we’ll work together to develop strategies that embrace adaptability, discipline, and inner toughness, helping you face life's challenges with confidence and clarity.
